The United States government has announced the elimination of the de minimis exemption for imports from all countries, effective August 29. Until now, this exemption made it possible to avoid duties and taxes for shipments valued below a certain threshold. As a result, all shipments to the United States, regardless of value, will now be subject to applicable duties and customs clearance procedures.
It is essential to understand how these changes could affect your shipments.
Duties and customs clearance: Effective August 29, all shipments to the United States, regardless of value, will be subject to applicable duties and customs clearance procedures. As of that date, Canada Post has indicated that its shipping services to the United States Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) (Tracked™ U.S., Expedited Parcel™ U.S. or Xpresspost™ U.S., ) will not comply with these changes.
There is a significant risk that non-compliant shipments arriving in the United States after August 29 will be returned to the sender. Therefore, starting August 25, Canada Post services will be disabled on eBay labels.
To ensure smooth international shipping, we strongly recommend that sellers take the following steps immediately to prevent shipments in transit from being returned.
- Use a commercial carrier such as UPS, FedEx, DHL or Purolator that can handle customs clearance in the United States; note that discounted UPS and FedEx rates are available through eBay Labels.
- Make sure the item location in your listings is accurate.
- Include the exact harmonized tariff codes as well as the country of manufacture (country of origin) in your listings and customs declarations. To learn more, see https://www.cafr.ebay.ca/sellercentre/growth/going-global/customs-requirements
Please note that for any export to the United States, the country of manufacture will be required in order to properly assess and apply the applicable duties.

·8 months agoWhy am I being penalized when the sale I just made is in Germany and not in the United States? On top of that, you charged me exorbitant fees with FedEx, more than the amount of my sale last time, and I never got any explanation from you. I was forced to pay under threat of penalty fees, ....finally I don't see why this applies now since my package is going to Germany and not the United States

·11 months agoSo if I understand correctly, it will be impossible for me to sell to the USA, because since I have a lot of small items, UPS shipping costs are way too high for a package under 2 kilos????
So why does the American buyer still see Canada Post shipping options?
